Baby names that are guaranteed to be nixed...

Should the Lord spare us, we will have a baby son in a few weeks. Or sooner. Here are some names that I have suggested that The Wife nixed without a hearing:
  • Ferris
  • Forest
  • Jürgen
  • Jesus
  • Beowulf
Can you believe it??? They seem perfectly reasonable to me.

Have you any other name guaranteed to be nixed by an otherwise sensible person?

Well, it's not the worst name, but the name of the Air Chief Marshall here in the UK is Sir Jock Stirrup (AND the surname is pronounced with only 1 syllable.)
Now that's almost determinative nomenclature given his testosterone-fuelled career!

Of course, I have to suggest the name I was going to be called if I turned out a boy:
Sampson Dougall Bethune Millward Grey. Thanks mum and dad for the sanity which prevailed when you named me 'Alex'...

When I was in 7th grade Home and Careers class, we had to carry around "dough babies," which were little three-inch pieces of clay in the shape of people. We had to carry them around to teach us responsibility. Ostentatious nerd I was, I named mine Telemachus Apollo.
I think Titus is a pretty cool name, though. Titus Moffatt might not work so well.

We too are expecting in a few weeks and I am for the life of me trying to come up with an alternative middle name to "Devon" - a family name (from a family with weakness for cold meats, also present in the line up is Silversides). We are thinking "Lovett". Not much help for you, but I'd recommend giving Devon a miss.

my pastor's wife totally shot down "Barnabas" for their soon-to-come son.

I have a new cousin named Tristan.
Dorian isn't bad either.

Btw, that's Cameron in the photo you got there, not Ferris. (Nitpicky, I know...)

Rachel Jones -- Great news!

As in Tom and Megan Jone's sister?

I have to say, I was particularly disturbed on the last week of term 1. We had a youth movie night & I thought Ferris would be the perfect pick.
1: SInce when was there that much swearing in it? A PG movie!
2: How is it that kids of this generation just don't appreciate Ferris?

P.S. My pick is "Oecolampadius." One of the forgotten champions of the reformation!

I think (for a boy), Evelyn (as in Waugh), Vivian, Osama and Saddam would be out.

My wife voted against "Cosmo" for our second son (who turned 6 today).

What about "Darth".

Or "Driscoll".

Hmmm.

Constantine?

Or, Commodus.

Which gives you Com Moffatt.

Come off it, you wouldn't really name your kid that!
