Suffering in Times Square

OK. I've been very busy lately. But my friend Michael Winram is in town, and he wants to do Times Square for New Years. I've told him that is snowing (which he knows), and that the temperatures are are guessed to be 21F (but with wind will feel like 5F). Now, if you are from the Antipodes, that's -6C (and feels like -15C).

The last time I did this was with Ed Spinger on December 31, 1997. That pic is 11 years old. And it was cooold then.

I'm going to join him. And Winram says he's committed to the end.
  • Should I stand by him until the bitter end?
  • And have you been to Times Square on NYE? Or anywhere colder?

What is the draw? Lots of people, ball drops, yeah!! Honestly what am I missing? Is it that much fun? Why? Maybe that is why God has me in the hills of Pennsyltucky.

I was there in 2000. It was minus 8C with 50 kmhr winds. Brr. All I remember is huge phalanxs of police blocking off blocks of streets.
Though it probably isn't technically colder, the south side of the railway station at Leura in the Blue Mountains, at 2 am on a winter morning, is in fact the coldest place on earth

How'd it go? I watched it from a warm, cozy sofa where it was 65F outside.

I left a misguided post on your facebook page wondering if it was for the kids' sake you went. But of course it would be impossible to bring children to that! Going back to delete it now...

We were up in Canada without much heat for a few days -- that was pretty cold. I began to wonder when bedwarmers are going to come back into fashion.

Next year, you can watch the fireworks on Sydney Harbour with us, or some of your other friends/family. It will not be -5 (C or F), but will be just as crowded :)
